Less intimidating than Sanctioned tournaments. This tournament has now been broken up into two tournaments; a doubles tournament in August and a Singles tournament in September. These tournaments go up to 4.5 level but no higher. The focus is to allow a more recreational tennis player a chance to compete and have a better chance of success. Call the False Creek Community Centre for more information at 257-8195.
This tournament is one of the biggest in the world in terms of entries. Players may choose from many categories such as open the various levels of player, wheelchair, father/son, mother/daughter and age categories. The tournament runs in late July into August.
http://tennisbc.org/tournament_information.htmlJust a short ferry trip from Vancouver Victoria has a wonderful set of three public courts in Beacon Hill Park.
Unlike Vancouver Public Courts where you have to choose your court to wait on, Beacon Hill's rules give the next open court to the next person waiting. This is great because even one person can claim the court and others will join up with them.
This helps mix players...
We have made two trips to Beacon Hill and found the level of play to range from 3.0 to 4.5 for both men and women. The earlier morning has a nice group of social tennis players.
The players there are very open to visitors and we knew many players after our visit. We were not the only visitors. Our first day we played doubles with John from Portugal and Rod from Canmore Alberta.
If your tennis is in a slump and you need a change, a trip to Beacon Hill might be the remedy.
