Vancouver and the lower mainland play soccer in the fall and winter seasons unlike the interior which play in the Spring and Summer. Much of this is climate related. The milder temperatures in the coast allow for this and create the ability to have ball diamonds and soccer fields in the same park area. Due to the wet weather in the area there is a strong push to develop the new infill artificial turfs.
Lighted artificial turfs are often necessary to lower mainland leagues being able to complete their league play. Turfs have gone from carpet to frayed fiber and now monofilament infill turfs. Here are three highlighted ones:
Hugh Boyd in Richmond is one of the newer fields and is a popular one with the soccer community. The layout allows for two full size fields and two small fields to be used at one time. These are the new generation monofilament fields.
Burnaby Lake Sport Complex is aging but provide four full size fields with a field house in one location. This is great for tournaments. More info on Burnaby fields.
Point Grey turf in Vancouver is the city's first infill turf and a second is being built at Vancouver Technical School. These are both monofilament fields and you can get more information on booking at the Vancouver Park Board website.
Brand new indoor turf facility (bubble) on the North Shore. Fall registration (Sept - Feb) now open, ages 17+ welcome! The only all-women's indoor league in Vancouver, men's and coed leagues as well!
