Whistler Children's Art Festival
The Whistler Children’s Art Festival is back in Creekside and celebrating its 25th year as Whistler’s longest running summer festival that sees children and families from the Sea-to-Sky Corridor, Lower Mainland and northwest U.S. come together for magic, laughter and creation. The weekend of arts and entertainment attracts over 3,000 attendees and will take place on Saturday,......July 12, and Sunday, July 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The hub of festival fun runs from the base of the Whistler Creekside Gondola, throughout Franz’s Trail and along the patios of local shops, all against the backdrop of the pristine Coast Mountain Range.
The Whistler Children’s Art Festival has developed over its 25 years by experimenting with new activities and performers at each festival, while fine tuning popular arts workshops and free activities annually. The festival has featured numerous wacky characters, roving performers and outrageous crowd-pleasing acts, but the 25th anniversary programming is sure to delight with new and returning favourites. In 2007, the Rogers Main Stage featured the Vancouver Aquarium’s regular sea-loving squad, Bobs & Lolo; First Nations storyteller, musician and charmer, Art Napoleon; the award-winning and jivin’, Blues Berries; magician and musician extraordinaire, Zany Zack; and the ever-popular and humourous tunes of Rick Scott. But, if the kids are ready to get their hands dirty and explore the art of their own imagination, the Scotiabank Workshops bring together professional artists, artisans and performers, to assist in over 65 hands-on workshops in sketching, dance, drumming, mural painting, dress-up, photography, wood carving, bear paw print t-shirts, chocolate dipping and more. The Scotiabank Workshops are geared toward kids between the ages of 3 and 13, but they find the balance to keep anyone and everyone dreaming and entertaining.
Entrance into the festival grounds is only $5 per child (over two-years-old) per day or $10 for the weekend. All parents play free! Those who pay for both days up front skip the lines and get to the fun stuff right away. Make sure to save July 12 and 13 as the days to muster all your creative juices for fantastic family fun.
